“Easier to believe a woman’s lying than that bad things happened on your watch. Easier to believe the simplest thing is always correct. And it’s simple to say a woman is crazy.”

 Tracy Sierra, Nightwatching

This book was the pick for the Fallon Book Club for April 2024.  It was supposed to be read over a few weeks but I seemed to forget that...

I'm not sure if I should feel proud or offended that so many authors choose New England for their thriller/horror novels (kidding, I get it).  Since so many people first settled in the area, having more scary things happen makes sense.  The buildup was stretched a bit, but I can understand why they did that to make the reader question the MC.  The outcome was not out of left field and the hints were dropped but not in such an obvious way that it was right in your face and the reader figures out what the outcome was well before in the end.

Creep factor? Check
Family drama? Check
Mysterious? Check

Without giving any spoilers, this is about a woman and her young children whose home is invaded one evening, and her struggles to deal with the stress of that and past issues within her family.   Having a stranger invade your home in the middle of the night when it is just you and your two young children would be a parent's nightmare.  This thriller tests the MC sanity and she has quite a troubled past.  This invasion is the icing on the cake and she needs to keep her wits about her to keep her and her children safe.

This isn't super gorey, no spice, just a good creepy thriller that will make you double-check that you locked your house before going to bed or leaving.  It was a quick read.
