Sometimes you come across an unexpected pleasure, and Black Water Lilies was one such read for me.
Set in Giverny, the paintings of Monet are a recurring theme. When the body of Jerome Morvel is discovered in the stream it is evident that someone had cause to want him dead. Obvious suspects there are aplenty, but it takes a while for us to piece together what happened.
We follow the course of the investigation, seeing through the eyes of a number of characters. It isn’t until the end, however, that we realise the significance of each viewpoint.
Definitely one to go into knowing little. This is an unusual read, presenting us with a series of characters and events that seem to blend timelessly into their environment.
