The Girl with a Clock for a Heart by Peter Swanson
3.0
I don't read many books of this genre, but having enjoyed Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, I've been wanting to read more of this type. And I loved reading this one. I was hooked right from the beginning and put off work/chores so that I could just continue reading. But, when I got to the end I wondered whether my ebook was missing the last chapter. Honestly, I felt that the author just couldn't come up with an ending, so didn't end it. I hate to have invested my time reading only to feel so dissatisfied. I would not have minded leaving the big question up in the air (that was kind of sexy) if some of the other issues had had been resolved. There were just too many loose ends and unanswered questions. Did Liana kill Audrey? Did Liana kill her father? (I didn't think so.) Was George's theory of what happened right? (Was it even believable?) Did George intend to meet up with Liana and live happily ever after? Or did he plan to turn her in? That's not for us to know. Arrgghhhh! I guess she, at least, expected the two of them to live happily ever after, since she left the clue as to where she was. Okay, I'm talking myself into liking it better. But how did she survive getting thrown overboard tied to a cement block? (A clue would have been nice there.) Was George really leaving Irene, faithful Irene, his one chance at real happiness? (With nothing but his cat??!!!!). Swanson's next novel does not appear to be a sequel. Darnit. (Nancy, if you read this one, let me know.)
