A Proper Darcy Christmas: A Delightful Pride and Prejudice Christmas Romance by Pamela Aidan, Pamela Aidan

3.0

I was soo excited for this book as it’s a follow up to one of my all time favorites, The Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman trilogy. I adore the character of Dy. However, the first 60% of the book he’s completely absent, and it wasn’t until the last 20% that we got to see his interactions with Darcy and Georgiana. The book really picked up then and I enjoyed the ending. But I would have so loved a more fleshed out story between Dy and Georgiana. And just more focus on the relationships and characters that we saw developed in the main series. More Fletcher and more between Darcy/Elizabeth. Their interactions were strangely flat compared the romance we read in the original books. The majority of the story focuses on a new Wickham type character and it feels like Georgiana has regressed into the immature young woman that she had grown out of in the trilogy. It’s sort of like a mystery, except it’s obvious where it’s going so it’s not meant to actually be a mystery I think— maybe a crime story? Dy’s role in the end feels rushed since so much time was spent on this other relationship in the first 2/3. I love this author so much and I hate that I didn’t completely love this book. I just wanted more! There was some need for further editing as well. I really hope she continues to write new stories in this world. I’d love to see what she does next!
