I Was Here by Gayle Forman
4.0
♡ I failed her in life. But I won't fail her in death ♡
I've read If I Stay, Where She Went and Just One Day by Gayle Forman. So let me tell you, this didn't feel like one of her books. I'm not saying this in a bad way because I Was Here had my full attention from the first page.
This book is heavy because it deals with mental illness and suicide. It's an emotional journey for Cody, our protagonist, who lost her best friend who committed suicide (this is not a spoiler).
This is a beautifully written book and it seems to me that is another alert for how serious mental illness are when they aren't diagnosed or poorly diagnosed.
I liked it very much, the characters were great and the ending was satisfying. The only thing I didn't liked that much was the romance, it could have been more elaborated but I understand it wasn't the focus of this book.
When I saw the title of this book, I immediately thought of the song I Was Here by Beyoncé and I think it could apply to this book.
♫ I want to say I lived each day, until I died
I know that I had something in, somebody's life
The hearts I have touched, will be the proof that I leave
That I made a difference, and this world will see
I was here...
I lived, I loved
I was here... ♫
