The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna
5.0
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches was the coziest book of this spooky season! The found family vibes, the witchery, the tea and scones, the humor, the romance :'D Legit, this was such a feel good and sweet read that I want to keep it with me and never let go.
Sangu Mandanna perfectly captured the essence of a warm hug with her writing here. Mika and Jamie's perspectives were so well balanced and I loved to experience the story primarily from their points of view. The narrative, in general, was so easy to get into and I quickly found myself falling in love with every single character.
I really loved that the plot here mostly focused on the found family aspect and how we can be good to each other if we only try. There was still conflict, of course, but they were all so organic and added tension to the plot without dragging the atmosphere down. I really enjoyed how Mandanna tackled each plot point and managed to resolve them while still delivering a story that was super soft.
There was one (1) subplot in particular with a twist that I saw from a mile away? And so I was just waiting for the characters to catch up lol it still didn't take anything away from the story for me, though!
The romance build up was also really well done! I will say that I cared more about the cozy found family moments than the romance, but it was still really sweet and I enjoyed how Mika and Jamie grew on each other the more they spent time together. The trust between them and how that was put to test was also really nice and well written and solidified their relationship to me. Also: there was one spicy scene in case you care about that!
The ending was also fantastic and wrapped up the story in the best way. It fit the tone and overall message of the book and I really loved that it was a happy ending to those who deserved it <3
