Our Dark Duet by V.E. Schwab

4.0

2023 reread

Well, this was off to a bit of a slow start, but it picked up the pace and intensity nicely soon enough. Things got much darker and bleaker in this one.
It's funny how my brain seemed to erase pretty much everything that happened in this book, except the ending and the pain, after my first read lol.
Now I just feel empty.

________
“Mourning was its own kind of music—the sound of so many hearts, of so many breaths, of so many standing together.”

To say this book was beautiful would be a huge understatement. It was painfully beautiful. It will steal your soul, and you will still love it. It will slowly break you apart, and yet you won’t be able to put it down until you finish it.. or it finishes you.

There are more monsters, more terrifying, much, much worst. And the worst of them all, is headed toward Verity. This book takes a very, very delicious dark turn.

“There were two kinds of monsters, the kind that hunted the streets and the kind that lived in your head. She could fight the first, but the second was more dangerous. It was always, always, always a step ahead.”

The characters Schwab created are perfection. They’re unique, complex and imperfectly perfect -if that makes any sense-. You can’t help but love them with all your heart. They’ve developed so much since the first book.
