Check, Please! Book 1: #Hockey by Ngozi Ukazu

5.0

Read it as a webcomic a long time ago and I've been following it ever since.

I am just sooo in love with this comic and I am so happy that people can now buy it in a store.
I absolutely urge everyone to buy it, read it or even just read a little bit of the beginning on the website to get a taste of it to see if you like it or not and follow the tumblr page.

Okay, so this is a freshman in college nicknamed Bitty (Eric Bittle) that is playing Hockey in the college team. It's about friendship, family and love. Discovering who you are and coming to terms with who you are becoming. Bitty is a baker, from generations and generations of jam and pie makers (though it is still unclear which one of his family members has the best recipe for jam). He loves playing Hockey even though he isn't the best, but thankfully is getting help from his friends and the captain of the team Jack Zimmerman. It's a story about him being yourself, making friends and discovering how to face your fears.

Now for SPOILERS!!!
okay, so since I am waiting for my copy to arrive in the mail, it is due for september , but hey I can wait--not..., which also means I am unsure how far the novel goes compared to the webcomic. So Jack and Bitty are just argh feels ! am I right ? They are so cute and genuinely in love. They are adorable in their own many subtle ways of loving each other. I love how they had this amazing friendship full of flirting that no one, even them, sees evolving as something more until it becomes love. Their lovely interactions, realistic life problems and personal doubts. Their friends are all so supportive and just waiting for them to catch on as they quickly discover their secret relationship, but let them open up about it to them on their own. How they then tease them and just cheer them on. I loved the side stories and the Hockey matches, Bitty evolving into someone who finally becomes proud of who he is and such a respected Hockey player, friend and mentor. His friends becoming family and their 'proud' moments when Bitty finally gets physical on the ice and stops being pushed over. It is truly one, if not my favourite webcomic.
