Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
2.0
I quite enjoyed this. Nothing happens for the first half of the book, but the writing and world-building was interesting enough to keep my attention. It was a very gentle read and, whilst you realised certain things before the narrator did, I did enjoy the gradual reveal about the world in which Piranesi lives.
I found the occasional predatory gay man vibes quite uncomfortable. I doubt it was intentional, but there were a few sections that I didn't enjoy. Of course we can have gay characters be evil or bad, but sometimes it just veered into the homophobic stereotype a little too much for me.
But overall it was enjoyable and a nice little page-turner. I don't read a lot of fantasy, but this was intriguing and gave me a sense of quiet peace at the end.
