I wasn’t so sure on this book when I started it. The first few chapters were a bit slow, but the story started to pick up after that. Some of the earlier flashbacks felt like they’d been put in the wrong place which made chapters a bit weird to switch between, but once the book found its rhythm it ended up being pretty enjoyable.
This is definitely not ground breaking writing. The prose is fairly simple and most of the humour didn’t land for me personally, but Team CFVY are some of my favourite RWBY characters so I was just happy to learn more about them.
I think Fox was written the best. He’s definitely gone up in my favourite character list. And the side characters were good too (I actually really liked Slate).
So, yeah, it wasn’t perfect, but it’s still better than whatever the show is doing right now.
