i've read all of this series over the years and was super excited for this one, and it definitely didn't let me down! i started reading it as soon as my preordered signed copy came n the post :D
as always, Chris Carter puts his experience to use by creating a super unique and fascinating situation, and pairs it with his impressive methods of creating tension which makes me literally struggle to put down his books. i found this especially in the last 100 or so pages.
there were some really great sections in here. one that sticks out for me is some chapters around the middle, which were from the point of view of a student performing an autopsy. i think they were written really well and i found the character switch quite refreshing.
I do think this one was just a little bit weaker to some of the previous in the series though. while it really picked up in the second half, the first half was quite slow. i also missed some of the more laid back scenes with Hunter and Garcia which often had a bit more focus in previous books. Basically, i think their was complete focus on the murder case with little focus on the characters. obviously i should expect that from a thriller book, but its Carter's ways of balancing the lighthearted Hunter & Garcia's friendship scenes with gruesome crime scenes which made his others bump up to 5 stars.
Overall, though, this was a brilliant addition to the Hunter & Garcia series, and as always i cant wait for the next one :D
