“We’re living in hell, sweetheart. I’m just waiting for you to decide if you’re going to stay in the part that burns or let me show you how to craft fire into a palace.”
“I may have fired the real bullet, but your willingness killed him first.”
Great continuation to the first book of the duet, Behind the Broken. This second one starts about three months after the first book ends.
I liked Anastasia “Ana” as an FMC. She seemed strong, resilient, and intelligent. I loved seeing her grow, get stronger, and gain more confidence as a character.
I also think Rhett was a great MMC. The dynamic and banter between him and Ana continued to be good. I enjoyed their chemistry and interactions.
There were multiple interesting side characters. A lot of them were familiar from the first book, but there were also some new ones I would love to learn more about.
The plot was interesting, and there weren’t any dull moments. There were multiple plot twists, and it wasn’t always clear which side some of the characters were on. There were some heavy themes in this book, and it felt a bit darker compared to the first one.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book. There were some things I would have preferred to be explained a bit more, and there were also some questions left unanswered, but other than that, I really liked the book and can’t wait to read more from the author.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.
