The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter

4.0

'he saw the girl who wore the dress, a girl with the fragility of the skeleton of a moth'

Much like Carter's other works, The Bloody Chamber (and Other Stories) can be very hit and miss. Stories like 'Puss In Boots' and 'Wolf-Alice' are definitely weaker in comparison to 'The Erl-King', 'The Snow Child' and 'The Tiger's Bride'. However the positives regularly outweighed the negative, despite Carter's inability to write an ending! (This excludes The Erl-King). Generally enjoyable Gothic fiction, fit for a time of sexual exploration and forbidden sensuality.
