When The Wind Blows by Raymond Briggs
5.0
Look, I love the Mad Max movies as much as the next person, but I’m fairly certain that this is a more realistic appraisal of life after a nuclear conflict. My copy was weeded from my school’s library due to age. I saw an opportunity to revisit a classic from my childhood. Courtesy of Fungus The Bogeyman and The Snowman, this (very) graphic novel wound up in a lot of school libraries. It is monumentally depressing and grim and was probably a huge common denominator in the political history of many people around my own age. I remember a lot of information that the Bloggs’ misquote from documentaries and articles from my own childhood. That they were ultimately useless to them just makes the message of this book hit home even harder. A superb work.
