A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
5.0
I am a huge fan of classics and I've enjoyed Dickens in the past (although I need to read more of his works). This one was no different. His style is poetic and beautiful. The characters are vibrant and fascinating. This is just a great read.
This novel surrounds the French revolution and as such has some difficult content. There's pain, suffering, and just general bedlam. The characters, while beautiful, are perhaps not as important in this novel as the setting. Their actions regarding the war is more what makes them so important. Dr Manette's imprisonment was described perfectly, making you feel his pain. The revelation about why he was imprisoned was mind numbing.
I don't really know how to put most of my thoughts into words. It was beautifully written novel with memorable characters and important events. The ending was heart wrenching. It was a great read.
