Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
3.0
The further I got in this book the more it felt like it was a lot less about censorship like I was led to believe, and a lot more about how books are good and TV is bad. Like there can be no artistic or intellectual merit to shows and movies, and if you’re not reading Shakespeare and The Bible then all you’re doing is watching trashy sitcoms and soap operas. Maybe it’s just because books like this set the stage for generations of media dealing with similar subject matter later and I’m probably just being super reductionist but the story itself, its rhetoric, and most of the characters just felt kinda patronizing and two-dimensional to me. It feels like a decent, C-tier Black Mirror episode. I dunno maybe I’m just jaded.
