Hope: A Memoir of Survival in Cleveland by Amanda Berry

5.0

This story is both fascinating and horrifying and, as the title says, full of hope. Three young ladies kidnapped by a man who everyone thought was "odd" but they had no idea what he was really like. He kept these girls chained up. They were his sex slaves. They rarely went out of the house during the 10 years they were in bondage and when they did it was only to the back yard and they had to wear a disguise. In spite of the horrible things he did to them, the families of two of the girls never quit looking for them or reminding people that they might still be alive. Knowing that their families were looking for them gave them hope to keep going.
