A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
5.0
I don't usually use gifs in my reviews but I think this one merits the use of describing graphically how I feel right about now. Just to be completely clear I'm the one with the dagger in the heart.

This was one of my most anticipated book of the year and I freaking loved every single thing about it; from the beautifully crafted settings to the delightful characters it was all done so brilliantly I feel the need to hug V.E. Schwab very tightly for writing the gift that is this book.
Let's move on to the list of thing I love about this book:
1) The characters: I mean every one of the characters even the villains. Wait. Let me correct myself I obviously loved the villains they were wicked and delightfully so they were certainly one of my favourite things about this book. My favourite was Holland because of reasons that would constitute a spoiler if I said them so i won't. Then we have our main characters although not exactly heroes; Lila and Kell are so stubborn and head strong while still a perfect balance of each other but my favourite was Rhy the charming prince who I actually thought I was going to hate but ended up loving, not only because of how amazingly hilarious and charismatic he was but because of Kell's loyalty towards him.
2) The Plot: It was all so complex and amazing I just can't bring myself to say something coherent enough about how much I loved the parallel London traveling and all the things that happened within each one.
3) The settings: Each one of the amazingly described setting drew me closer to the story I actually felt like I was in those places and even the smells that were described fitted perfectly with my images of the Londons.
4) The cultures: Each London had a different way of looking at things, a different language, a different set of rules, a different way that magic flowed thought it and in turn a different way in which they behaved towards magic. I simply loved it.
Well there are more but I can't bring myself to think about this book more without immediately sobbing so who wants the fun facts?
Fun Non-Spoilery Facts
- A dammed rock
- Knives
- Grey, Red, White, Black
- Evil siblings
- Magic
- The smell of Roses
- A coat with more than 2 sides
- Stubbornness
- Pain
- People being possessed
- Death
I recommend this book to people who loved Vicious also by V.E Schwab and people who like books with magic, traveling between parallel universes, books with little to no romance, reading fiction, reading, people who know how to read.
Enjoy.
