Juniper & Thorn by Ava Reid
4.0
Horror. gothic. Dark fairy tale retelling of an already dark fairytale.
Definitely know what you’re getting into when you start reading this.
I really like Ava Reid’s writing style, and I can appreciate what she did with this story. I know it’s based off some of her own experiences, and based off other survivors’ too. This novel starts off seemingly as a gothic fairytale but slowly descends into something dark and twisted as more horrors of the story are revealed.
This book is definitely a change of pace, and kept true to what I’ve experienced with Reid’s previous work, The Wolf and the Woodsman. I plan on continuing to read what she writes, I’m looking forward to her next book, A Study in Drowning.
Please check the content/trigger warnings before starting this book. And understand that it’s supposed to make you uncomfortable.
