Forbidden Daddy's Baby by Scarlett Score

3.0

Rating: 2.75/5 Penguins (rounded up)

Quick Reasons: not the book for me; drama, intrigue, suspense, all the typical romance tropes/plot points; confusing writing; not a lot of story progression; too much smut (?! I didn't think that was possible!) at inappropriate plot moments

Huge thanks to Scarlett Score and BookSirens for the ARC of this title! My review of this book is voluntarily written and in no way altered or impacted by this gesture.

This was an OKAY read for me. There was drama, intrigue, suspense, a scattered trail of clues, a surprise pregnancy. The read was fast and easy. You can tell Scarlett Score is passionate about the characters and their stories. There were many GOODS in this book. BUT…

The writing style really frustrated and confused me. I notated 21 different places where I had to stop, scroll back looking to see if I missed something, audibly say "WHAT?!" multiple times, then continue. There were a lot of loopholes in the plot--some of these got cleared up MUCH later, some of them did not get cleared up at all. The story started from the middle, and it was hard with the writing style to really get a feel for who the characters were, what backstories they had, etc. There was not a lot of plot progression--instead, it felt like any time there was opportunity for the author to dig deeper into the characters, the story, their relationship, etc… she instead threw in a smut moment. A lot of these moments were overall very poorly timed in regards to the rest of the scene's events.

That all said, if you're a surprise pregnancy, snippet of a "time in the life of", billionaire romance sort of girly/reader, you may enjoy this read better than I did--so don't knock it just because it wasn't for me! The read is quick, the author is passionate about this story, and some of these scenes are bound to leave you needing a cold shower. Check it out, maybe? Happy reading, Penguins.
