His Royal Secret by Lilah Pace

4.0

This was exactly what I needed after DNFing quite a few books. It doesn't try to be more than a slow romance with well-written sex scenes and just enough drama to keep things interesting and flowing.
Now I'm nowhere near a royalist and know nothing about the culture of the modern monarchy so that had little influence on my enjoyment or not. Also, while both James and Ben are a little dramatic and very self-serving characters, I felt they were pretty realistic to the situation and times and I enjoyed them the more I read.
This plot is far from a new idea but now, with books like [b:Red, White & Royal Blue|41150487|Red, White & Royal Blue|Casey McQuiston|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1566742512l/41150487._SY75_.jpg|61657690] being so popular, and it's hard to not compare them but remember that this came years before. I couldn't help but thinking that McQuiston definitely read and was influenced by this.
