Fervent: A Woman's Battle Plan to Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer by Priscilla Shirer
5.0
I read this book as a part of a small group through my church. We read one chapter a week and this book is definitely one that flows well for group reading. I recommend getting a notebook to journal in if you don't already have one. This is the second book I've read by Ms. Shirer and it was my favorite. I read God is Able first and it was just as good. But I think Fervent felt more personal, at least to me. What I like about Ms. Shirer's writing is that it flows like conversation. She writes as if she is sitting across from you at Starbucks.
I like how she used each chapter to address particular areas in our lives that need attention. These are also the same areas in which the enemy attacks (like your FOCUS, your FAMILY, and your FEARS) and can sometimes leave you feeling helpless...unless you put together a plan. That plan is developing a strategy of FERVENT prayer.
What I like the most about this book is that at the end of each chapter she provides a couple of pages of scriptures you can use as a guide to assist in praying for that particular area. And the other cool part is that there are perforated notes cards in the back of the book that you can use to write down what you are praying for. Note that this book is based on the strategies seen in the movie War Room.
I highly recommend this book if you are in need of guidance on HOW to use FOCUSED and SPECIFIC prayer. It is an easy read, but I suggest taking time and not rush through each chapter. Use this as a reference book; one that you will refer to for years to come.
