This book is absolutely heart-rending and beautiful at the exact same time. Following Marcos story as he navigated the new normal way of life made me question how I would react in the same situations.

Following a virus outbreak that left all animals dead, humans have resorted to each 'special meat' from humans bred in captivity for consumption. The different ways that the characters react to this change felt raw and real to the ways I would expect reactions to be if this was a real-life scenario.

The last scene of the book where Marcos kills the head, Jasmine, that he impregnated because she had the 'human look of a domesticated animal' left me staring at the book speechless for a while.
This is a book that stays with you for a long time after you finish it and a highly recommended read from me.
