Demon Love Spell, Volume 1 by Mayu Shinjō

3.0

I read the first volume for Demon Love Spell in high school and loved it but never finished the series. Recently I reread another series by Mayu Shinjō called Akuma na Eros which is one of my old faves, so I thought why not try to finish Demon Love Spell and see if I like it just as much. The short answer is I don't like it as much as Akuma na Eros but I still kinda liked it, so let's talk about Demon Love Spell.

I love Kagura and Miko, they're well written. I also love a lot of the side characters. Mayu Shinjō's art is as beautiful as ever and it compliments some of the awesome side stories in the manga (Demon Love Spell is episodic). The plot actually fit well within a 6 volume series, sometimes this is lost in short series so it made me happy that it didn't feel so hollow.

I did love the scenarios that Miko and Kagura did face but they also went a little out of character for a couple of them which put me off. It also became a bit repetitive and left some interesting things unexplored. The pacing of it was not great when some unimportant qualities took more focus than the important ones that I really liked, and I wish it had been explored more.

Despite all that, I still enjoyed reading this. It was quick and it was entertaining. If you're into stories about sexy demons trying to lure a human girl, give this one a read. It's decent and enjoyable. If that's not your cup of tea it's all good but I do recommend it!
