I made it to page 183 (44%) before I made the decision to DNF this book. I am typically a huge fan of a fated mates/forbidden love romance, but I truthfully didn’t feel the chemistry between Adirah and Royce for me to become as invested in their relationship as I thought I would be. I also didn’t quite sit well with me that she didn’t remember her “euphoric” night with Royce. I understand that this may be explained away later, and that I may just be missing information, but personally, if Adirah is too drunk to remember the man, she’s too drunk to consent. Royce was a fun character. He’s dreamy and says all the right things. And I sympathized immensely with Adirah’s past family trauma, but I simply couldn’t see the sparks between these two. I wanted more tension, more pining. The texting was my favorite part, although slightly tainted by the circumstances surrounding the “forgotten identity.” Overall, I think this could have been an amazing read, but it falls just short for me.
