Citizen: An American Lyric by Claudia Rankine
3.0
Tsk tsk tsk. I had to read this for my Intro to Poetry class so that wasn't a great start for me, but this book ended up being just alright. Some of the shorter poems were easier to grasp and moved me a bit, but the longer and particularly scripted ones were a lot harder to understand which lessened my experience. Overall this book does a good job of putting us in other people's shoes and bringing forth emotions some may not know they had. I'm just glad it was good enough to not bore me or make the assignment difficult. I appreciate Claudia Rankine as a person, but her writing isn’t completely for me. I do recommend this to any and all as it holds many heartwrenching, eye-opening poems.
