Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

Whoa.
Whoa.
OK so this book throws you immediately into the middle of the action, which is EXTREMELY confusing because there are necromancers, but they're in space, and way too many characters to keep track of (I honestly stopped bothering for a while). But then, and hopefully this is not a spoiler, they start dying. And the necromancy and space stuff become less important as the book turns into a suspenseful and fun murder mystery.
Couldn't put it down.
