Rounded up from 2.5, I really wanted so much more from this since I know too well what it’s like to be consumed by idol culture!! Especially when having something you can obsess over gives you a little remove from your dysfunctional family and your spiralling mental health. I could sort of relate to Akari from when I was in my teens, when she was obsessively watching shows and collecting merch. There were lots to explore in this, including commentary around cancel culture (which was most definitely a thing way before 2015 when it seemed to finally seeped into western culture!). I just didn’t think it went far enough :( would love to pick up a physical copy to see illustrations though.
