To Bleed a Kingdom by Ella Dawes

5.0

Rating: 5/5 Penguins
Quick Reasons: sobbing, begging, crying to return to the me 50 pages before that ending; I have no words, I have no thoughts, I have no heart left; I need..... NEED..... book 2

HUGE thanks to Ella Dawes, Gilded Roots Publishing, and The Nerd Fam for the title! My review is voluntarily written and in no way altered or impacted by the gesture.

"You threatened that very same thing on the way here."

"I hear it on a daily basis," Kace adds with a proud lift to his chin.

Amara considers Kace thoughtfully. "You DO seem like the type of person I'd castrate."

"You mean the type of person you'd THREATEN to castrate. You forgot threaten."

"No I didn't," Amara deadpans.

First things VERY first, Penguins.... PLEASE MIND THE TRIGGERS. This book is DARK. There is violence, there are very triggering scenes, and this starts from the very first page. We are immediately thrust into the action...and be warned, it doesn't get any better or easier. Please take care of yourselves. Please read the triggers. Please HEAVILY consider whether or not this read is right for you.

That being said........... the amount of times lately that I have been left screaming into the void after a book that has absolutely shattered everything in this Penguin's supposedly cold heart is astronomical. This book is no different. There is fast-paced action; the characters live and breathe through the pages; the story is richly detailed and packed with emotions. And that ENDING. I thought I'd read endings to end all endings before....but I was SO wrong. This book WILL slaughter your pulse, leave you absolutely wrecked, and have you wishing to return to the you you were 50 pages before the ending. This book will make you reconsider everything...and then immediately NEED book 2. This book will devour you.

"Come, little demons," she coos, unsheathing the sword from her back. "Let me show you that true power lies not within the Void, but with the Stars."

I will remain here, a broken, jumbled mess of emotions, until I have the second book in my Penguin flippers. I definitely recommend this to lovers of dark fantasy, richly detailed worlds, and snarky characters who know how to rip you apart. But please mind the triggers, Penguins....as much as I adored this book, it is NOT for everybody. The Kingdom is bleeding, Penguins...are you ready to take a stand?
