Barbarian's Hope by Ruby Dixon

This was a rough one. It deals with a couple who've broken up after the death of a chil, and in their grief they're angry and not communicating. It's deliberately frustrating and difficult to read, and is one of the angstier books in the series.
I actually really enjoyed the book when it came to Asha's anger and the two working through their grief, but I think this book would've benefited from some flashbacks to when they first mated. I went into the book knowing nothing about Hemalo and I came out of the book knowing nothing about Hemalo. And all I know about Asha is that she was promiscuous before she mated!
These two needed more characterisation because it felt like they only existed in relation to their child dying.
