The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen

5.0

This was my first in a long of what I like to call "fluffy" books. I needed to feel warm and fuzzy after reading books about war and this book really delivered the warm and fuzziness. I liked that the book brought in just enough of the characters' backgrounds to make sense of their current state of mind. I absolutely LOVED the nimkilim. They were a great comic relief.

When I first read the synopsis of this book, it reminded me of You've Got Mail. Well, it is essentially You've Got Mail but with fantastical elements and perhaps more likeable characters or at least more believable. I enjoyed seeing both main characters grow in their own way and take control of the aspects they need and discard what they don't.

I loved, loved, loved that we got both points of view. I always feel like we miss important parts of the story when we only get one side.

This is a great book. After I finished reading the library copy, I went and purchased my own copy so I can keep it around whenever I need a cozy read. Also, fair warning: there was a lot of crying on my part so have your tissue box at the ready.
