Hijab Butch Blues by Lamya H
5.0
I listened to this fantastic memoir on audiobook, which was narrated by Ashraf Shirazi. This was a wonderful narration of a captivating memoir!
Hijab Butch Blues is a deeply affecting and impactful memoir of Lamya's queer coming-of-age story which is also paired alongside stories from the Quran. I found it interesting to not only learn about the Quran but to also gain insight into how Lamya saw herself through these stories. This memoir is told in a non-linear format which I felt provided a unique insight into the struggles and triumphs of Lamya's life.
If you have ever had self-doubts, felt yourself struggling to let people in, or have had difficulties showing your vulnerable side to others, you'll find connections to Lamya's story. Finding something that you can draw inner strength from is an important lesson for us all!
