Bride by Ali Hazelwood

4.0

In a slight departure from "slow burn academic rivals to lovers" we have... "slow burn monster rivals to lovers" here.

Did I love it? Absolutely. She had me chuckling from page 3, though there were certain character inconsistencies and choices made that, while emotionally compelling, felt chosen for their impact on the reader rather than their plausibility in the story. There's a predictability over the whole of Hazelwood's work that sometimes feels like she's copying from herself, and while setting a story in a shifter and vampire world lent some much needed freshness, I really hope that if/when the next book comes out set in this world, there are different character tropes used.

Suffice to say, I adored all the characters (I always do!) and hope that this book gets a much-deserved sequel.
