Persuasion by Jane Austen
4.0
I’m aware that Miss Austen was in the throes of the illness that took her from us while writing this, which is why it has only 4 stars. Look, it’s a little bit shaky in places - the beginning mostly - and it is a novel in which, even by the standards of Jane Austen, very little happens, but I think it might be my favourite story of all.
First up, Anne is a wonderful character, as is Captain Wentworth, and the supporting cast are fantastic. Secondly, it relies far less on coincidence than the other novels and, thirdly... well, it contains THAT LETTER from Wentworth to Anne.
Yeah, I loved this one. I wish it were longer and less muddled at the beginning, though that may be me more than anything else.
