The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

I don't know why it took me so long to pick up this book. It's been sitting on my shelf for years and I finally decided to read it. When I first started reading, I wasn't sure if I liked the writing style - it's very figurative and at times not at all literal. However, I did grow to like it and the fact that the narrator was Death. I think this had a greater impact than Liesl being the narrator. Overall, I love these characters, this author, and this book. Part of me wishes the ending was happier, but I know that the book wouldn't have had the effect that it did if that were true.
