It's in His Kiss by Julia Quinn

3.0

Significantly better than a lot of predecessors. The plot was wholly unique which was a welcome change. I loved seeing more of Lady Danbury, tho. I wished we had more scenes either the Bridgerton family (as we all know it is my favorite part of these books). And for once the romance felt fairly real and organic.

However, nothing can be perfect and I still hate how toxic a lot of these relationships can be. Gareth is definitely one of the least problematic ones, but I promise deciding you will have sex to ruin someone’s reputation to ensure they can’t leave you is just gross and unacceptable. She was ALREADY INTERESTED AND WANTED TO STAY YOU DIDNT NEED TO DO THAT. Like that sex scene could have played out the exact same but without his underhanded intentions.

I get that maybe these is “period accurate” but
1. I’m not reading these for historical accuracy.
2. All of these books have way too much aggressive and toxic behavior to turn around say “now root for their romance” it might be period accurate but it doesn’t sell me on LOVE AND ROMANCE which is in fact what these books are meant to do.

Anyway I’m obviously not the target audience anyway because I find issue with abusive relarionships and people don’t view all these as abusive. But whatever. If you liked any of these books I assume you’ll like this one as it is definitely one of the stronger stories with the least problematic main characters.
