The Cruelest Kind of Hate by Celeste Briars
4.0
I was so excited to get into this book after reading the sneak peek in Riverside Reapers #2! The sneak peek had sucked me in already. Do check tw/cw for sure though!
It did not disappoint! Gage and Calista have such a fun dynamic, I love that they are forced to spend time because she agrees to help his physical therapy heal by doing dance lessons.
Honestly, I think my favorite part about this book was the family dynamics and healing that took place between them all. It was heartbreaking to read about Cali's mom and how that effected her family. Cali being forced to grow up young so that she could take care of her younger brother, Teague, and also becoming her mother's primary caretaker due to her illness. The responsibility that Cali felt towards her family was was so interesting to read about how it effected her and how she interacted with others.
My favorite favorite parts were watching Gage become so close with Teague. It was so incredibly heartwarming and sweet to read. I think it was my favorite representation of our mmc basically adopting the fmc's child/younger sibling.
I think that this is the best written book out of the series as well, I felt absolutely captivated by it and reading about all of our characters. I will say that part of why it is rated a 4 stars is simply because I wish we got to learn/see a bit more about Gage's family. We learn about his family and parents, but at the same time I feel as if we are missing something in that aspect. But, it was only a small issue for me.
Overall, I highly recommend this book if it sounds like something you'd enjoy!
