Alright. This book was just okay.
Not gonna lie, the best part about this book was Kenji. I liked him a lot as a character. To be really honest, I needed to read about a character like him.
Now moving on to the things I disliked...
Well, the first and foremost thing that gave me an ick was that this was supposed to be a Dystopian level but I didn't see as much of it as I wanted. Romance was the main plot, atleast that's what the book appeared to be. There were mentions of the world in the first few pages but then they never showed everything in detail. I got the vibes of Hunger Games from the book but this doesn't compare to the Hunger Games.
I found Juliette really annoying. I understand her trauma and identity crisis but sometimes she just needed to shut the fuck up. Also the love between Adam and Juliette didn't feel real to me. They had never even spoke to each other before. It felt like Juliette had confused her sense of feeling "alive" with love. It was the first time that she could touch someone else or do things that humans do and so she associated that sense of freedom with selfless love.
Adam's dialogues were cringy. Maybe it's because I don't really like Romance as such but they felt too corny to me. I seriously don't know why but I just don't like their relationship or Adam at all. Something just doesn't feel right. It doesn't feel real.
Speaking of disliking the characters, well uh Warner. Why are people literally in love with him? He's a freaking psychopath. I won't say that I hate him, no but I don't like him either. But then again there are 10 more books in the series so I hope to see a character development but seriously if he doesn't change at all, then all his fans are maniacs.
Now the writing style of this book is something that I haven't read before or maybe I'm just not used to it. The author had used a lot of metaphors (more than necessary for God's sake). So I could be biased because I don't like such similes and metaphors thrown all throughout the book, like some of them didn't even make sense or maybe I'm just dumb. Regardless, I was irritated by them.
The last few chapters got me. If those chapters weren't included in this book, there's a 90% chance that I never would have wanted to read more books in the series but now that it's caught my attention, I'm looking forward for more. I really hope that the things get better and I'm curious to know about all those people with gifts.
