A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
okay, i want to talk about this.
this was NOT the book for me. i'm very sensible over the theme “i'm not the owner of my body” and this is so graphic in the details that i had to put it down.
i'm not going to talk about the plot – but when i was around the 100 pages i was starting to care about the characters and, knowing what the community thinks about it, i looked the plot up and, dear god, it was traumatic. but i am a soldier, so i kept going. after the end of the second part, though, i gave up. it triggered me in all the ways possible, and i knew that the worse (and the worse of the worse) had yet to come
so, here i am, done with a little life
was it beautifully written? yes. absolutely. and that's why i'm so sorry about it. it could have been my favourite book ever, hands down, if it wasn't for the trauma porn portrayed in this novel
