Even though she had failed, being a mother was eternal; a part of her life wouldn’t end with her death.

Illness and dying had revealed her mother’s truer thoughts, the ones her mother had been protecting her from.

One of the books that took me the longest time to finish. This book follows a generation of family during the war and hardship of Korea. It gives so many perspectives about identity and sustaining oneself. It highlighted the struggle of women to support the family in the patriarchal world.

I am amazed by the hardworking Sunja who does everything she can so her children can get a better life.

This book is a very detailed character study of so many characters with different backgrounds and unique approaches in life. Show how they make decisions and where they lead them.

Heavy story but very meaningful and makes me ruminate about life.
