All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace

There’s lots of strong woman vibes, fighting, sailing, magic and a dash of romance.

It’s a first person novel with the POV. It’s about an 18 year old young woman called Amora who’s about to take on the mantle of heir to the throne. She’ll also be expected to accept a proposal from a male suitor, providing she can demonstrate sufficient skill and control of her magic.

What I find interesting is how the world here has different types of magic, many of which are quite brutal. We’re talking blood and bone kind of brutal, which makes me think of how some describe voodoo magic.

There are a few issues with the book though, such as:
*spots in the story that feel info dumpy
*characters withhold info or decide not to share to create mystery, suspense, or stretch out the story but it’s often annoying whilst also still being possible to predict what they should have just said
*Amora often came across as really arrogant and entitled (and this doesn’t change much), and it felt like we were expected to root for her just because she felt like she had a purpose
*The supporting cast of characters (like a mermaid!) were actually quite interesting, but we didn’t get that much from them

Parts of this I wanted to rate a 4 as the setting and premise was something I enjoyed but, as I got further in, I felt overall it wasn’t strong enough to maintain that rating. I’m rating it a 3/5 though I may well read another, since i assume it’s part of a series.
