In the Kingdom of Ice: The Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the USS Jeannette by Hampton Sides

Oooooooh MAN. What an amazing story! And the thing that made this book really shine is the number of men on the crew who kept journals. So much of this is in the actual words of the people who lived it. The beginning is a little less exciting, but does the important work of setting the stage, then when you get to the journey itself, which is NUTS, you really get to where you know the men and their families and the world they lived in. What an amazing book, its not one I'll forget.
