The Moon Sister by Lucinda Riley
3.0
This book was good, though maybe my least favorite of the series. And I think the only reason I say that is because it's really starting to grate on me that every single sister has to fall in love in order for her story to be complete, and this one felt more forced than most. Otherwise, it was fascinating to learn about gypsy culture in Spain and abroad, a more human (or I guess non-combatant) picture of the Spanish Civil War, and flamenco in general. It was a neat contrast between the hot climates of the gypsies in the past and the cold climate of Tiggy's place of employment in the Scottish Highlands, but somehow she fits in everywhere. Her affinity for animals and special abilities are a little woo woo for my taste, but I guess they worked in the context of the story.
Really, this is such a fun, well-researched, wide-ranging series with heart, and I'll be so sad when I get to the end. I'm a little nervous about the next book, because of all the sisters I've never like Electra, so it will be interesting to see where that goes. What I'm really anticipating is book 7, because I'm sure Riley has planned something unexpected and perfect around the missing 7th sister, and I can't wait to see what it is. I feel like Zed Eszu's creepy appearance in Tiggy's life is hinting at something... but what?!
The fine print: received ARC from Edelweiss.
