One Scream Away would just be a typical serial killer story if not for all of the unique details added to the killer's background and lots of different kinds of forensic evidence added to the story to make it more interesting. I did have some trouble connecting with the protagonists, possibly because there was so much procedural information. We don't learn as much about their personalities and emotions as we do about what has happened to them in the past. Overall though, this was an interesting story.
