From start to finish this was seeming obvious how things would end up, though there were a few unexpected twists along the way.
Daisy comes from money, serious money. She used to have an incredibly famous boyfriend. But nobody knows this about her, and she’s happy for that to remain the case. She is working for an F1 team, in hospitality, and the way it is depicted seems as misogynistic as you may expect.
In this testosterone heavy environment, Daisy and her fellow ‘bun tarts’ are there to look after the team. While they make disparaging comments about women out for the drivers because of their status, they both get caught up in things that suggest someone could view them in similar ways.
The main focus of the story is the slow burn romance between Daisy and hot new driver Lewis. Unfortunately, there’s a substantial amount of time where she is pining for another driver who has a long-term girlfriend and shows no signs of leaving her. His death during a race marks a shift in dynamics, and from that point on it’s pretty much a matter of time before things go as expected.
The style was irritating and the characters appeared rather one-dimensional. Frothy, and sometimes it’s nice to have a bit of substance behind the froth.
