Family Style: Memories of an American from Vietnam by Thien Pham

4.0

I'm a sucker for storytelling tied in with food, and this graphic memoir does a great job of illustrating the vignettes of life surrounding each dish as we follow Thien from becoming a refugee to an immigrant, all the way up to citizen.

Poignant and fresh, this is a book that begs rereading, though there isn't a lot of context or background for why certain things are happening that I think a younger reader will be able to understand, though they can certainly enjoy this in their own way since much of the story takes place over middle school and some of high school.
