One of my childhood favorites, I found the way that Rose learns and grows inspiring. In some ways she and Uncle Alec challenged the norms of the time. As an adult, I see the theme of moral instruction, but I still attach a lot of sentimental value to the story.

Recently I read the free Kindle edition. It was interesting to note that some of the character names were different. For example, Annabel Bliss was Ariadne Blish.
