It's hard to overstate what a fantastic portrait this is of the orange industry at a particular point in time. McPhee lets the colour of his material come through, skillfully picking out the most incredible bits of his research. He sees the industry and history for what it is - one of empires and money - and applies the vocabulary accordingly without being overbearing.
