“he found himself asking was there any point in being alive without helping one another? Was it possible to carry on along through all the years, the decades, through an entire life, without once being brave enough to go against what was there and yet call yourself a Christian”

a short book, following Bill—a father and a husband—living in this small village in Ireland, set during Christmas time. During his works, he visited this convent located in his village and discovered the lifestyle inside this convent is very different from the image the nun shows to villagers and how they act in church. this book is a criticism of Christianity, show what kindness truly is. Not just a preaching material but it should be engraved into our everyday life.

i love the writing style and how despite not having a lot of pages, the writer successfully portrays Bill's emotions, scepticism, loneliness, and questions in life. This book also shows the worst inside people’s minds, especially the main character. A very compact and important read.
