Jett & Victory: They Had Potential But... They Just Didn't Pull Me In
I decided to read this book based on an author recommendation (Catharina Maura, whom is one of my favorites!). I really liked the plot and felt that this couple would really pull me in. Unfortunately, they did not.
Victory is a woman who suffered an illness from a young age, with a new lease on life, she chooses to be a bright spot on this Earth with her optimism, bright clothing, and desire to make lemonade out of all the lemons in life. She's paired with the broody, cynical Jett, who tries his best to burst her pink bubble at every turn. Why this man has made this his mission in life is really beyond me. Jett is only happy when it rains so I was a little turned off that he was determined to stamp out Victory's light when that very light is what draws him to her.
Further, I began to really dislike Victory because she seemed to just march to the beat of Jett's non-committing drum, even though what she really wants is a relationship. She continues to sleep with him in spite of this and I began to really question her state of mind as to why she is wasting her time.
I stopped this book at 75%. There was plenty of sex but at this point, I can't see Jett doing anything to redeem himself in my eyes and Victory just continues to dig herself deeper into his web. At this point, I really don't care enough for either of these characters. So, I cut my ride short.
I'm not giving up this author and I will try another book from Shain Ross. This one just didn't grab me. I love her writing style and the fact that I stuck it out this long shows that she is a very engaging author. I just didn't like these two.
Happy reading!
